The Bankside Miniature Railway first opened in 1977 when the owner installed this railway after running at Beaulieu Gardens for a few years in the sixties. The railway is unusual as being on elevated track and is the only 8 ¼ inch gauge railway in the country. Trains are pulled by ‘Carolyn’ which was built in 1924. Trains run from Brambridge Station and run round a balloon loop, returning to the station. Then the whole train is revolved on a 35ft Turntable ready for its next journey. The line was extended from End to End to its present situation in 1999. The line is now dual gauge so more engines can operate on the railway.
